Is it hard to be a Vegetarian? A Vegan?
Many people want to make a dietary change to improve their health or to lose weight or to improve their skin…… There are so many reasons to change your diet.
I am a vegan. I have been vegetarian for 40 years. But most people see that change as being tremendously difficult.
A few weeks ago a friend of ours told us that she was going vegan. I was excited for her! What a great decision for your health, the animals and the planet. After that I did not see her for a couple of weeks. When I finally saw her the first question I asked was “How is the vegan diet going?” Her response was silence and I knew she had fallen off the truck.
She said “Being Vegan, It is so hard!”
Later that same day a lady with cholesterol problems came into the store asking about what to do to lower her cholesterol. The conversation turned to diet where I told her my suggestion would be to limit or eliminate meats, dairy and oils. Her next response was if I had a book or recipes to follow to eat that way.
People tend to make eating a plant-based, vegetarian or vegan diet harder than it needs to be.
So I asked her 1 simple question. Have you ever eaten a meal with Chicken, rice, beans, vegetables and salad? She said “Of course…like everyday!
I said “Take the Chicken off your plate and you have a vegan meal.” Removing the chicken, and not using additional fats like oils, that same meal is not only vegan it is also low-fat and has no cholesterol! Eating Vegan is really that easy!
Today vegan alternatives are all over the place! The other day we went to Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt shop and they had 4 non-dairy soft serve sherbets. No animal products, no dairy products, delicious!
Being Vegan today, is only hard in one place, in your head!
