The American Egg Board (AEB) is made up of 18 people appointed by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture from within the egg industry. The AEB is the Egg Industry’s link to you, the consumer. They work for the egg industry and egg producers. Their job is to increase demand for eggs and egg products.

They want you to eat more eggs.

When an egg company advertises they can say anything they want if they use there own funds to pay for the marketing. The American Egg Board makes $10 Million available to egg companies to help them finance their marketing campaigns. But if they want to use American Egg Board funds they must adhere to certain rules, namely they cannot to engage in false and misleading advertising, because US Government money is involved. The U.S. Dept. of Agriculture oversees the advertising to make sure that companies do not lie to you, the consumer.

In the video below Dr. Michael Greger exposes the US Government guidelines for Egg Advertising. It outlines what a company can and cannot say about eggs in their advertisements. You might be a little surprised!

According to the US Dept of Agriculture:

You cannot say that eggs are healthy or nutritious.

Because they are high in cholesterol and fat you cannot legally say eggs are nutritious. This is a Big Problem!

You cannot say eggs are a diet food, again because of the cholesterol and fat. They have 2 times the calories of what we would consider a low calorie food.

You cannot say eggs are low in calories.

You cannot say eggs are low in saturated fat. That would be a lie!

You cannot say they are relatively low in fat. Another lie!

You cannot say they are a rich source of protein.

You cannot say they have a high nutritional content. You cannot even say they contribute nutritionally.

You cannot say they are healthful, healthy or good for you.

High fat and high cholesterol are not healthy!

You cannot say they are important to a healthy diet. They actually contribute to the #1 killer in the U.S., heart disease.

The egg industry cannot even say eggs are safe!

This is because 100,000 Americans a year get Salmonella from ….eggs.

Who says you cannot call eggs Safe, Safe to Eat or Healthy?

The U.S. Department of Agriculture!

What did you have for breakfast this morning?
